With summer just around the corner, most people try to avoid hot kitchens and eat much lighter foods, and for good reason too. Who wants to be eating large, hot meals when the temperature outside is sizzling! Take a look at our suggestions of quick and easy healthy snacks that not only taste good, but will help you achieve a healthy balance of the three macros - protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats, all essential in order to tone and build that desired booty of yours!
Simple, yet so good, especially if you are needing to up your intake of protein throughout the day but don’t want to have plain old protein powder with water (sorry, but boring). Instead, add ice and it will change the way you look at protein powder forever! All you need to do is take a scoop of protein powder, a handful of ice and a small amount of water (more ice than water). Blend it together in a blender until the ice has broken down into a frappe-like consistency. That’s it, super easy! Of course you can play around with it and add flavours that may tickle your taste buds. The addition of coffee is fantastic too.
Raw Brownie Protein Balls
Who doesn’t love a good chocolate brownie but doesn’t quite like the high sugar count that tend to come with sweets and desserts? Incorporate the key flavours of a brownie into a protein ball so that you can have a small snack whilst out on the go. Protein balls are a great way to incorporate healthy fats and protein into your diet and are perfect if you are time poor as you can prepare them in advance and store them in your freezer.
Feel free to play around with the choice of nuts and nut butter, the options are endless.
60 g protein powder
4 tablespoons of LSA mix (linseed, sunflower and almond meal)
4 tablespoons of seeds (pumpkin seeds, linseeds, flaxseeds, chia seeds)
4 tablespoons of nuts (any nuts of your choice)
1 tablespoon of cacao powder (if you are wanting a chocolate flavour)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
2 tablespoons of nut butter (opt for a nut butter that has minimal refined sugar)
¼ cup of maple syrup
¼ cup of warm water
¼ cup of desiccated coconut (for rolling)
1 - Combine the dry ingredients and blend together in a food processor.
2 - Combine the wet ingredients.
3 - Add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. If you find that the mixture is too wet and sticky, add more LSA mix. Alternatively, if the mixture is too dry, you can add more warm water.
4 - Roll into balls, cover in desiccated coconut and place in the fridge or freezer until firm.
Banana ‘Nice’ Cream
Who needs ice cream when you can have banana - NICE - cream! This is a great treat too if you are lactose intolerant! Again, it is super simple, all you need to do is blend the following ingredients together in a blender and add whatever toppings you desire!
1x frozen banana
125 ml of yoghurt (can be coconut, greek or regular yoghurt)
Plus whatever flavourings you would like to add. Particular yoghurts are great sources of protein however if you wanted that extra protein kick, feel free to add protein powder, just be mindful that you may need to add more yoghurt to accomodate for the extra dry ingredient!
